GEN – 852.00. The association Construction Products Europe is working towards a smart CE marking concept in the form of a CEN Workshop Agreement by April 2018. This would also refer to Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Construction Products Regulation 305/2011 (CPR)

Most products covered by Eurovent do not fall within the scope of the CPR. The CPR is regulating the information on construction products. Manufacturers are obliged to follow this law to declare the performance of most construction products according to the relevant harmonised standards.

The CPR sets the framework for the common technical language, which is detailed by the relevant harmonised product standards. Until now, only in a written format. The common technical language of the harmonised standards does not yet include digitisation. The CPR also establishes the possibility to provide the information in a digital format according to Commission Delegated Regulation 157/2014.

The pending task is the development and agreement of a common digital format to provide the requested information in a standardised way and thus to engage and invest in IT tools and concepts. This format will follow a general approach based on the legal documents and some standard specific content to properly serve to the declaration purposes. A liaison with CEN/TC 442 (Building Information Modelling) is expected.

CEN Workshop

This CEN Workshop has been initiated by the European association Construction Products Europe, CPE, to consolidate their work on a smart CE marking concept in the form of a CEN Workshop Agreement by April 2018. Each entity (3 experts at most) participating in the CEN Workshop Agreement will have to pay a € 500 fee. CEN TC experts (e.g. TC 442) would be exempted from this fee.

The kick-off meeting will be held on 8 December 2017 in the Construction Products Europe (CPE) premises, 68 Boulevard du Souverain, Brussels.

Recommended Actions

Manufacturers producing products that must comply with the Construction Products Regulations are recommended to consider registering for participation by 4 December 2017 with the Workshop Secretary, Ms Lisbet Landfald.
