REACH initiative: Call for evidence on broad PFAS restriction (GEN – 1137.00)

GEN – 1137.00. National authorities of five countries (Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Denmark) invite interested parties to send in evidence and information on the use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The call for evidence request includes producers, suppliers and distributors. The survey is very broad, covering a wide range of substances and polymers, with the deadline on 31 July 2020.

The European Fluorocarbons Technical Committee (EFCTC) has called the attention to the invitation by national authorities of several European countries to interested parties to send in evidence and information related to PFAS.

The survey is a very broad, covering a wide range of substances and polymers, and seeks to establish as one of its objectives how these substances are used and if workers come into contact with them.

As the European trade association for the producers of HFCs, HFOs and HCFOs, EFCTC is preparing and will be submitting a detailed reply to the call for evidence. In addition, they call all on relevant parties to participate in the related survey.

Recommended Actions

Interested parties are invited to reply to the call for evidence and to complete the relevant questions for their activities in the online survey. As an aid, EFCTC has drafted general answers to the most relevant questions (part of GEN – 1137.01).

Companies producing or using PFAS, selling mixtures or products containing these substances and those using alternatives to PFAS, as well as scientists and NGOs are especially invited to take part.

The survey can be completed online via https://www.reach-clp-biozid-helpdesk.de/DE/REACH/Verfahren/SVHC-Verfahren/Stoffliste-EN/Stoffliste-EN.html. It is listed as PFAS under current consultations.
