GEN – 851.00. Shortly after the release of the European Commission guidance document on the Gas Appliances Regulation (GAR), our partner association Orgalime has issued a guidance document written by a Task Force composed of industry experts.
Orgalime Task Force GAR
This task force has been working on a practical guide interpreting the GAR. It was released after the Orgalime General Assembly that was held on 22 and 23 November 2017. This guide will be available free of charge from the Orgalime website for both members and non-members.
Contents
The Orgalime guide differs from the Commission guidance documents in that it provides in simple words a step-by-step approach for manufacturers on how to comply with the Regulation.
Seven steps are identified and commented:
- Step 1: Identify if this Regulation applies to your appliances
- Step 2: Identify the Harmonised standards
- Step 3: Prepare your technical documentation
- Step 4: Choose your notified body
- Step 5: Choose the relevant conformity assessment procedure
- Step 6: Draft your EC Declaration of Conformity
- Step 7: Affix the CE marking
The obligation of the manufacturer to perform a risk assessment is also addressed separately in a pragmatic manner.
Caution
Please bear in mind that the Orgalime guide is a living document and it, as well as the Europaen Commission guidance and FAQ documents, may evolve after 21 April 2018 should there be interpretation questions.
As usual both the Orgalime and Commission guidance provide a legally non-binding interpretation.
Recommended Actions
Manufacturers producing gas fired appliances may find the Orgalime guide a useful a practical tool, which is complementary to the European Commission guidance documents.
