GEN – 828.00. The rise in the number and the continued building of new data centres has caught the attention of the European Commission’s DG Environment. Early in 2017, the Joint Research Centre in Seville together with a consortium led by Viegand Maagøe started a study that will develop procurement criteria.
Initial questionnaire
An initial questionnaire was launched in March 2017 and the outcome will be presented during the 1st Ad-Hoc Working Group (AHWG) meeting that will take place on Thursday 16th November at JRC in Seville, Spain.
The project website does not yet contain many documents. The working documents for the meeting will be made available around mid-October. The registered participants will be informed about this by email. Due to logistical constraints, only a limited number of participants can be accommodated in Seville. A representative body of stakeholders will be invited to participate in the workshop on an individual basis.
To have access to all documents, and be able to comment, you need to be registered as stakeholder (technical working group member) in the JRC stakeholder communication internet tool, called BATIS. To register, please send your contact details by e-mail to the project team using this template. Additional instructions will then be provided.
Recommendations
Manufacturers supplying equipment for data centres are encouraged to register for this study. Even though Green Public Criteria have a voluntary character, it is possible that they will have an impact once known within the world of data centres.
