GEN – 884.00. On 22 December 2017, the European Commission released its ‘draft exchange model’ to test the future database EPREL. The white goods industry represented by the association CECED has been discussing this database in weekly meetings. This has led to a paper with comments to which Eurovent can subscribe.
Main concern
The “draft exchange model” that has been released is not yet fully operational. The white goods industry has been considering the detail of the manner the database would function. Many items have been identified.
The deadline for the EPREL database to be operational is November 2017. CECED and other associations who have joined the industry joint position emphasise the need to start as early as possible with pilot operations and functionality tests.
If a full pilot with complete functionalities cannot be developed and shared soon, it is proposed to break down pilots in separate functionalities. Given the short timeline, they could and should be tested separately and where possible in parallel.
The “final” pilot, including all functionalities necessary for full operation, needs to be available by September 2018 at the very latest, to be in time for the first “real” registration foreseen in November 2018.
The meeting hosted by the Commission on 12 March 2018 should provide for an update.
Recommendation
Manufacturers are recommended register for EPREL on the Collaborative Workspace and to get familiar with the database. Companies that are interested in participating to the pilot phase are recommended to contact the Eurovent Secretariat.
