EU 2021 Rolling plan for ICT standardisation (GEN – 1223.00)

GEN – 1223.00. The Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy announced in 2015 aims to prepare industry for global competitiveness. The National Recovery and Resilience Plans should support 37% of the green transition and 20% of the digital transformation. The DSM is accompanied by a Rolling Plan for ICT standardisation.

Rolling Plan for ICT standardisation

The Rolling plan for ICT standardisation provides an overview of the needs for preliminary or complementary ICT standardisation activities to be carried out in support of EU policy activities. Some 180 actions are identified under four thematic areas.

The HVACR industry is not addressed as such in the 206-page Rolling Plan, however the chapters on the industry digitisation (pages 165-171), Construction/Building Information Modelling (pages 176-179) and Circular Economy (pages 189-193) give an idea about the possible future evolutions that have already been defined within standardisation.

Link to Ecodesign and Energy Labelling

Within the preparation of the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Working Plan 2020-2024 a separate assessment study on ICT was carried out. Except for servers with a link to cooling, no HVACR products are covered. With time it can be expected that besides Circular Economy aspects, digitisation will be, also for HVACR equipment be part of the future framework for Sustainable Products.

Recommended actions

Digitisation is more and more introduced at various levels in the HVACR industry, from BIM to remote controlling for maintenance and other aspects. The staff within companies dealing with digitisation may find it useful to look at the overall picture presented in the Rolling Plan
