GEN – 988.00. In addition to the new Energy Label designs, the European Commission has also initiated a consumer study on the icons that would be used. At present, the consultant CentERdata is developing icons for the revised Energy Labelling Regulation for air conditioners.
Consumer study
During the consumer study, the Commission usually does not consult with stakeholders other than the consumers involved. It is the brief given to the consultant.
When finalised, the consumer study is discussed at the Consultation Forum, in this case for the review of Air Conditioners Regulation 626/2011. At that time and after, there will be time to give feedback on the label design for air conditioners and the effects it will have on the other appliances.
Icons for air conditioners
Informally, the European Commission is asking associations for comments or suggestions by 25 January.
Currently, the consultants are developing icons for the map with the climates, the indoor/outdoor sound and the energy efficiency (SEER, SCOP) for heating and for cooling. The enclosed GEN – 988.01 contains the first proposals. For each icon, 3 alternatives would be tested with a public of consumers.
It is noted that the draft icons for air cooling, air heating, SEER, SCOP contain fan-like symbols.
Recommended Actions
Because the proposed icons or part of these icons may be relevant for the development of other revised or new energy labels, Eurovent kindly asks manufacturers to submit their comments by return, so that these can be communicated timely to the Commission.
