Eurovent publishes fourth edition of its filter energy efficiency guideline

Brussels, 26 November 2019. The Eurovent Association has released the fourth edition of the widely-applied Eurovent Recommendation 4/21 – ‘Energy Efficiency Evaluation of air filters for general ventilation purposes’. The updated guidelines set out a new method for the determination of the annual energy consumption for filters operating at an airflow rate other than nominal.

Eurovent 4/21 was first published in 2014 and has since gone through several revisions and editions. The aim of this guideline is to assess the yearly energy consumption based on a laboratory test procedure which can be the basis for an energy efficiency classification, to give the user of air filters guidance for the filter selection. This document was prepared in a joint effort by participants of the Eurovent Product Group ‘Air Filters’ (PG-FIL), which represents a vast majority of all manufacturers of these products active on the EMEA market.

The fourth edition of this well-established Industry Recommendation includes a new Annex 1, which sets out a new method for the determination of the annual energy consumption for filters operating at an airflow rate other than nominal. The new methodology has been developed based on a series of tests and analyses carried out by the PG-FIL Technical Subcommittee, and unanimously approved for publication by the group during their last meeting in Turin.

Mr Jan Andersson (Camfil), Chairman of the Product Group ‘Air Filters’ and its Technical Subcommittee, states: “This new methodology paves the way for easy filter evaluation not only under the reference test conditions but also at the actual operating point. It brings new opportunities for evaluation of the energy efficiency of ventilation units, also in the light of the upcoming requirements of the revised Commission Regulation (EU) No 1253/2014 (Ecodesign requirements for ventilation units).”

The Eurovent Recommendation 4/21 (2019) is now available for download in the Document Web Shop at www.eurovent.eu. For members of the Eurovent Association, the document is available free of charge. For non-members, a fee of 69 EUR is applied. It should be noted that the Eurovent Association does not grant any certification based on this document. Certification is the subject of Eurovent’s subunit Eurovent Certita Certification, which runs independently from the association framework.
