The 2014 Low Voltage Directive (LVD) covers health and safety risks on electrical equipment operating with an input or output voltage of between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current or 75 and 1500 V for direct current. It has been applicable since 20 April 2016. In 2019, Ecorys carried out an interim evaluation study of the 2014 LVD on behalf of the European Commission. In 2021, the European Commission published Staff Working Document SWD(2021) 203 summarising the official conclusions of the evaluation. It considers that the LVD – a few minor notes notwithstanding – remains fit for purpose.
